Our Frequently Asked Questions provide answers to many common questions about our private Scotland tours with guide, as well as booking and travelling with us. Have a look and don’t hesitate to contact us if you can’t find the information you’re looking for!
What does Brambling Bus do?
We organise private, custom-made tours of Scotland in four languages: English, French, Italian and Polish.
What does “private tour” mean?
Booking a private tour means that you will have a driver, a guide and a vehicle all for yourself and your party. A private tour is completely tailored to your interests and needs, and will allow you to explore Scotland at your own pace, in a truly unique way.
We will organise your tour in every detail and you will be able to enjoy your holiday without worrying about planning and driving around – especially if you’re not used to driving on the “wrong” side of the road!
Do I need to know where I want to go in order to book a private tour?
Absolutely not! Just drop us a line and we will design a personalised itinerary based on your interests.
Where can I find some ideas/inspiration for a Scottish tour?
How long can my private tour take?
Since all our tours are private and custom-made, it all depends on you and how much time you wish to spend on the road with us. We can design short tours of one and two days, but also love planning longer trips around the country!
Is there a minimum number of travellers required?
No. Our comfy car can welcome up to 6 passengers, but it’s up to you if you wish to travel alone, with a friend or with the whole family.
What kind of vehicle will I be travelling on?
Our Ford Tourneo Custom L2 is a comfortable and reliable 8-seater. It features a spacious interior, but is small enough to navigate the narrow Highland roads. The vehicle is big enough to accommodate your special requests, such as mounting a baby seat or taking a furry companion with you. Multiple USB sockets and chargers are available on board.
Does Brambling Bus offer other services?
Besides working as a private tour company, we offer TV and film transport services in Scotland for groups of up to 6 people. From location scouting and recce trips to set-to-set transfers, we help small crews to unlock the potential of Scottish locations for all kinds of media productions.
How can I get in touch?
How do I book a tour?
If you wish to make an enquiry or book a tour, you can fill in one of the forms in our tour pages or contact us here: Get in Touch. We will get back to you as soon as possible and start planning your dream holiday!
Why is it better to book directly?
Booking directly with us will allow you to get the best price for your tour and avoid any sort of hidden fees. By doing that, you will also support our small family business and help us save the cost of commissions.
What information will I have to provide in order to book a tour?
We will require your name and email address, together with the dates of your stay and the total number of travellers. If you wish to proceed with the booking after your itinerary is ready, we will ask you for your full address in order to issue an invoice.
What is the price for a private tour?
Our rates are set per tour, not per person, no matter if you’re taking a one-day excursion or a multi-day trip.
One-day tour prices start from £400 depending on the time of year and itinerary.
Multi-day tour prices start from £500, with a guide accommodation allowance added for every night spent on the road.
What is included in the price?
Our rates always include two private drivers/guides; your personalised itinerary; airport/hotel pick-up and drop-off; all car costs; on-board USB chargers; Scottish snacks and water. The price will not include your accommodation and meals, entry fees to visitor attractions and ferry costs.
Will I have to pay in advance to secure my booking?
We require a full payment in order to book the date of a one-day tour.
For multi-day tours, we require a 20% deposit in order to secure the dates of the trip, with the rest to be paid, at the latest, 60 days before the beginning of the tour. For bookings made less than 60 days before the beginning of the tour we require a full payment.
What happens if I have to cancel my tour?
In case of cancellation, there will be an 80% refund up to 30 full days prior to the start of the tour. Within 30 days, a 20% refund applies. This is valid for both one-day and multi-day tours.
Will Brambling Bus book my accommodation?
Depending on the itinerary and the type of accommodation you wish to stay in, we will help you with a list of recommendations, but let you finalise your bookings.
Will Brambling Bus book other activities/attractions?
Most of the tickets to visitor attractions can be purchased on site while on tour and we can help you with that. We can also assist you with other tickets you might need or want to book online before your trip.
Does Brambling Bus take children on tour?
Yes. We believe private tours are the best way to enjoy holidays with the family! When you make your booking, please let us know if you’re travelling with kids and require baby seats on board.
Are pets allowed on board?
Yes. We love pets and are more than happy to welcome them on board! Please let us know about your travelling companion when booking your tour.
Do I need to have my personal travel insurance?
You will be covered by our comprehensive insurance when on board the vehicle. However, personal travel insurance is not included in the price of the tour and should be organised independently.
Where will Brambling Bus pick me up at the beginning of the tour?
We don’t have a set starting point for our tours: we will pick you up at your preferred location. It could be the airport, a train station or your accommodation – it’s completely up to you.
Is there a specific starting time?
We usually try to start our tours around 9am (or a bit earlier from Edinburgh, due to the heavy morning traffic), but are absolutely flexible and will plan the tour according to your schedule.
What size of luggage can I bring?
Our Ford Tourneo Custom L2 has a large boot and plenty of space for all the luggage you might need to bring, including baby strollers and golf club bags.
What kind of clothes will I need?
We recommend our customers to take waterproof jackets, walking shoes and at least one change of warm clothes, even in summer. Scottish weather can be very unpredictable and it’s always good to be ready for the famous “four seasons in one day”!
Where will I eat?
We always try to include family-run, local cafes and restaurants in our itineraries – to both support local communities and give you the chance to taste real Scottish food and drinks. The places we will stop at for lunch and dinner will depend on the tour, but we are always happy to hear about your preferences and accommodate them as much as we can.
Will I have some free time?
Yes. Every day on tour is different, but you will have plenty of time to do some shopping, enjoy your meals and discover local pubs if you wish!
Who will lead my tour?
Since we care about your comfort and safety, we provide you with a driver and a guide at all times: two people on tour with you to make sure you’ll have the best experience possible! Visit our About us page to find out more.
What language will my tour be in?
Our tours can be organised in English, French, Italian and Polish.
Where will Brambling Bus drop me off at the end of the tour?
It’s all up to you! We will drop you off at your preferred location.
Is there a specific drop-off time?
We usually try to finish our tours in the late afternoon, but there’s no fixed time. We are flexible and can accommodate your needs (for example, if you have a flight or a train to catch).
