Itinerary for our Islay Private Tour from Edinburgh:

Day 1:

We will pick you up wherever you are and make our way to the West Coast, visiting historic places and natural spots along the way. We’ll raise a glass to rebels near Rob Roy’s grave in Balquhidder, taste local dishes by Falls of Dochart in Killin and dive into clan history by Kilchurn Castle. On the way to the ferry we can also add a tour of the southernmost Highland distillery in Deanston. After the evening crossing to Islay you’ll get a first taste of the island which will be your home for the next few days.

Day 2:

First we explore the western part of the island with its two unique distilleries: farm-based Kilchoman and Bruichladdich with its local-focus philosophy. We want you to understand what makes Islay special and experience more than just distilleries. That’s why we’ll take you to peer into the Atlantic from the small fishing village of Portnahaven and breathe in the salty sea breeze on the Machir Bay beach. To end the day we’ll tour Bowmore and watch the sea from its special whisky bar.

Day 3:

North of the island beckons with Bunnahabhain and its pier, Caol Ila overlooking the Isle of Jura, and Ardnahoe – the newest distillery on the island. We’ll also get to visit Finnlaggan: the ancient seat of the MacDonalds and heart of their Lordship of the Islands.

Day 4:

We wrap the tour with a  drive along the south coast of Islay. We sample peaty Ardbeg at the source, taste smooth Lagavulin and trace the unique local ingredients at Laphroaig. We also explore whisky connections at Port Ellen and can take an optional hike to the American Monument.

Day 5:

We depart Islay on the morning ferry and grab a spot of lunch in picturesque Tarbert. On the way inland we go for a walk in the grounds of Inveraray Castle and take the scenic route south along the banks of Loch Lomond. We raise our parting glass on the beach in Luss or at Glengoyne distillery, before we drop you off at your preferred location.

We’re always full of ideas (you can get to know us better here), but let us know if you have any specific interests or needs. We want you to have fun, so we’ll adapt the tour for you!
