Itinerary for our 3-day Outlander Short Tours:
Day 1:
The tour begins at one of the most recognisable Outlander locations. The humble Midhope Castle will always be Lallybroch for the fans of the saga and is conveniently located on the Hopetoun House estate. Not far away on the rocky shore awaits Blackness Castle (Fort William in season 1) and before lunch we still have time to visit either Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway (London train station scenes) or Linlithgow Palace – set for the most dramatic scenes of Jamie’s captivity. After lunch in Stirling we make our way north, taking in the inspiring Highland landscapes and arrive in Inverness in time for dinner and evening stroll by the river.
Day 2:
Whole morning on the second day will be devoted to the sombre and inspiring Culloden Battlefield, where you’ll learn the story of the Jacobite last stand with your private guide. Nestled nearby are Clava Cairns: Bronze Age testament to Scotland’s pagan and mystical past. After a walk among the stones and lunch in the Cairngorms National Park we drive south through Strathspey to the openair Highland Folk Museum. To finish the day you’ll get to relive Versailles scenes at Drummond Castle Gardens before we make our way to Stirling for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3:
We start our last day with a tour of Doune Castle – Outlander’s Castle Leoch. As always, your private guide will introduce you to the real history of the place and point out all the scenes filmed at the location. Just a short walk away is Deanston village – Le Havre in the TV series and home to a unique whisky distillery you’ll get a chance to explore. After lunch we travel back in time to the post-war Inverness, or rather Falkland village, which served as its set location in the first season. We then make our way to the coast and retrace the remaining Le Havre scenes in Dysart, before taking a final walk in the seaside village of Culross – easily recognisable as Cranesmuir. Here we say farewell to Claire and Jamie, and finish the tour at your preferred spot.
We know it’s difficult to find the perfect Outlander tour – if you have only one day, why not join us for our 1-day tour? You can also hop on our 2-day tour and visit the most iconic set locations.
